ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Meat consumption

Meat is food that comes from animals like cows, pigs, and chickens. Eating meat gives us energy and important nutrients that help our bodies grow and stay healthy. However, too much meat can be bad for us and for the environment.

When we eat meat, we are also eating the fat and cholesterol in it, which can make us sick if we eat too much of it. Eating too much meat can also increase the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer.

Additionally, getting the meat to our plates has a big impact on the environment. Raising animals for meat uses a lot of resources such as water, land, and energy. The animals themselves also produce a lot of waste, which can harm the environment.

That's why it's important to eat meat in moderation and choose sustainable sources of meat. This means eating smaller portions of meat and choosing lean cuts of meat. It also means looking for meat that comes from farms that care about the environment and treat their animals well.

Finally, we can also choose to eat more plant-based foods like fruits, vegetables, and grains, which are better for our health and the environment.
