When people believe in a god or gods, it means they think there is a higher power that controls things in the world like the sun, the wind, the rain, and everything else. Some people believe in one god, and that means they are monotheistic. This is like having one parent that takes care of everything in the family instead of having two parents. In a monotheistic religion, people believe that this one god controls everything and has a plan for everybody. It's like having one captain that is driving the ship in one direction, instead of many captains driving the ship in different directions. People who are monotheistic usually believe that this one god is all-powerful and all-knowing, which means he (or she) is in charge of everything, and knows everything that is happening.
