ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Nanotube nanomotor

Imagine a tiny machine so small that you need a microscope to see it. This machine is called a nanotube nanomotor.

In this nanomotor, there is a thing called a nanotube. A nanotube is like a really skinny straw. It's so thin that you can't see it without a microscope.

Now, the cool thing about this nanotube is that it has something called a magnet on it. You know how magnets stick to the fridge, right? Well, this tiny magnet on the nanotube is even smaller than that.

So, when you put this magnet near another magnet, they stick together. But in the nanomotor, scientists made it so the magnets repel each other. That means they push away from each other.

Now, if you put energy into this system by heating it up or shining light on it, the nanotube will start spinning. It's kind of like when you spin a top, and it keeps going around and around.

This spinning motion of the nanotube can do all sorts of cool things in the future. Scientists are still figuring out how to use nanomotors like this to build tiny machines that can do things like move around inside your body and fix things that are broken.
