A national church is a type of church that is the official or dominant religion in a particular country. Many countries throughout the world have national churches and people who live there are expected to follow that religion. For example, in England the national church is the Church of England. People who live in England are expected to go to Church of England services or follow its beliefs even if they aren't members of the church. National churches usually have special rights or privileges from the government that other churches don't have.
