Neanderthal

A long, long time ago there were some people who lived in a place called Europe. They were called Neanderthals because they lived in a valley called the Neander Valley. They were different from people now because they had big eyebrows, a flat nose, and a big body. They would hunt animals like deer and make tools from stones to help them survive. They also made a fire to keep warm and cook their food. Neanderthals were very strong and tough, but they didn't live as long as people today because they didn't have medicine to keep them healthy. They had a hard time competing with people who came later and eventually they disappeared. But we can still learn a lot about them from the things they left behind like their tools and bones.
