ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Non food crop

Have you ever heard of something called a "non-food crop"? It sounds kind of weird, doesn't it? But actually it's just a fancy way of talking about plants that people grow for reasons other than eating them.

See, most of the plants that grow on farms are things that we like to eat, like carrots or apples. But sometimes farmers might grow plants for other reasons. For example, they might grow flowers to sell to people who want to decorate their homes, or they might grow cotton to use for making things like clothes.

These plants are called "non-food crops" because we don't eat them like we do with fruits and vegetables. Instead, we use them for other things, like making clothes or decorations.

So, when you hear someone talking about a "non-food crop", just remember that they're talking about plants that we grow for things other than eating!
