The Nuragic Civilization was a group of people who lived a long time ago on a big island called Sardinia, which is part of Italy. They lived there for a very long time, almost 3,000 years! The Nuragic people were very smart and built some very interesting homes and buildings that we can still see today.
They built something called a ‘nuraghe’. This is a really big tower made of stones. It was was made of round rocks and it looked very different to the shapes of buildings we see today. A nuraghe has a big entrance, inside there is a spiraling staircase made of stone, and there are different rooms inside the tower. Some nuraghes even have more than one level! Nobody really knows for sure what the Nuragic people used these towers for, but they may have been places to store food or protect themselves from wars or maybe even for ceremonies and religious practices.
The Nuragic people also built special graves, called ‘tombs of the giants’. These were large tombs with long corridors, and they were used to bury the dead. They were much bigger than regular graves because the Nuragic people believed that the dead should be buried with their personal belongings, so they needed space for all those things.
In addition, the Nuragic people were skilled farmers and raised animals like sheep and goats. They also learned how to make bronze and used it to create some impressive objects, such as swords, tools and pottery.
Even though the Nuragic Civilization disappeared a long time ago, we can still see their buildings and objects today in Sardinia. People study the Nuragic civilization to learn more about how people lived a long time ago and to understand how technology and society have changed over the years.
