ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Oil tanker

An oil tanker is a really, really big boat that travels around the world carrying a lot of oil. The boat is so big that it can carry millions and millions of gallons of oil. Think about your bathtub at home - an oil tanker can carry enough oil to fill up over 500,000 bathtubs!

The reason we need oil tankers is because oil is used for many things like making gas for cars, making electricity, and even making the plastic toys you play with. But not all countries have their own supply of oil, so they have to get it from other places. That's where the oil tanker comes in, it takes the oil from one country and delivers it to another.

Oil tankers are built with really strong walls called "bulkheads" and they have special devices to make sure the oil doesn't spill out. They also have a lot of people working on them to help make sure everything is safe and the oil gets delivered where it needs to go.

Sometimes, unfortunately, oil tankers can have accidents and the oil spills into the ocean. This is really bad for the animals that live in the ocean and the environment. So it's really important that we take care of our oil tankers and make sure they are safe and don't spill any oil.
