ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Organic agriculture

Organic agriculture means growing plants and raising animals without using chemicals, like pesticides and fertilizers that are not natural. This is done to protect the environment, keep the soil healthy, and make the food we eat safe and healthy for our bodies.

So, imagine you have a garden, and instead of using chemicals to keep bugs away, you find natural ways to protect your plants, like using other bugs that eat the bad bugs or making a special spray with natural ingredients. You also make sure the soil has lots of nutrients, so your plants can grow strong and healthy on their own, without any chemicals.

Organic farmers do this on a larger scale, using natural methods to take care of their crops and animals, like planting different types of plants to keep pests away or letting chickens eat bugs that would normally harm crops. They also make sure that the animals have plenty of room to move and eat, and they are not given any unnatural things, like growth hormones or antibiotics just to make them grow faster.

Organic farmers put a lot of time and effort into growing food in the most natural way possible, to make sure we have healthy and tasty food to eat. So, the next time you eat an organic carrot or an organic apple, you can be proud to know that it was grown with lots of love and care the natural way.
