ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Parallelism (rhetoric)

Parallelism in rhetoric is when we repeat certain words, phrases or structures in a sentence or group of sentences to create a specific rhythm or effect. Remember when we sing "Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are". That's parallelism - we repeat "twinkle, twinkle" and "how I wonder" to make it sound pretty and make it easier for us to remember the words. So when writers and speakers use parallelism, they are trying to emphasize a point, create a memorable statement, or make their writing or speech sound more pleasing to the ear. It is like when we repeat our favorite song lyrics over and over again. We remember them easily because of the parallelism.
