Petrie polygon

Have you ever played a game where you connect the dots to make a picture? Well, petrie polygon is a way of connecting the dots on a 3D shape to make a flat picture.

Imagine you have a ball, like a soccer ball, and it has a bunch of little shapes on it. These shapes are called faces. A petrie polygon is a special way of drawing a flat picture of these faces by tracing along the edges of the ball.

It's kind of like if you put a piece of paper on top of the ball and traced around the edges of each face. When you take the piece of paper off the ball, you'll have a picture of all the faces connected together in a certain way.

Scientists use petrie polygons to help them understand 3D shapes and how they're put together. It's a bit like a puzzle, but for shapes!
