Pied-noir is a French word for "black foot". But don't worry, it doesn't mean someone actually has a black foot! It's actually a special word used to talk about people who used to live in a place called Algeria a long time ago.
A long time ago, France controlled the nation of Algeria, which is located in a place called North Africa. Many French people moved to Algeria to live, and they stayed there for a very long time. These French people, who were born in Algeria, came to be known as pied-noir.
These pied-noir people spoke French and had their own culture and traditions, but they also had connections to Algeria. But then something happened in Algeria that made many of the pied-noir people have to leave. There was a big war that lasted for many years, and during that time, many people left Algeria and went to live in other places.
Even though the pied-noir people don't live in Algeria anymore, they still remember their culture, traditions, and history. And some of them still talk about being pied-noir, as a way of celebrating their unique identity.
