ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Plant sexuality

Okay kiddo, so plants are like people, they have different genders: male or female. But they don't have any private parts like humans do! A plant's male part is called the stamen and it makes pollen. Pollen is like dust that the wind or bees carry to the female part of the plant, which is called the pistil. The pistil has an ovary where the seeds grow after the pollen travels down a long tube called the style. When the pollen meets the ovary, they join together and make a seed. So, in a way, plants need each other to have babies too, just like humans! Sometimes, though, there are plants that can have both male and female parts on the same plant, and they can fertilize themselves. It's pretty cool stuff!
