Plasma propulsion engines are a type of engine that uses plasma (a super-hot, charged state of matter) instead of gasoline to make a rocket move. Plasma is so hot that it can be used to create a powerful thrust, or pushing force, that is much greater than what gas could create. Essentially, it is like shooting a super-hot firework out the back of the rocket to give it a boost. The plasma also lasts much longer than a firework or even regular gasoline would, so rockets powered by plasma can stay in space for a lot longer than those powered by gasoline.
