ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Political dissent

Political dissent means that when people disagree with the government about something, they are allowed to speak out about it. It's like when you and your friends are playing a game, and someone suggests a rule that you don't like, you're allowed to say why you don't like it, and maybe suggest a different rule instead.

In bigger places like countries, sometimes the government makes rules or decisions that people don't like, or that they think are unfair. When people speak out against those things, or protest them, that is political dissent.

It's important that we can disagree with our government because it helps us make sure that the rules and decisions they make are fair and good for everyone. If we couldn't speak out, we might not be able to make changes that are needed. However, it's also important to be respectful and peaceful when we express our disagreements so that everyone stays safe.
