Polymer banknote

You know how money is usually made of paper? Well, some people thought it would be a good idea to make it out of a special kind of plastic called polymer. This makes it more difficult to counterfeit (make fake copies).

Polymer is made up of lots and lots of small bits called molecules. When these molecules are all stuck together, they make a material that is very strong and stretchy. This is why polymer banknotes are very hard to tear, and they can even survive a trip through the washing machine!

To make a polymer banknote, special printers use really fancy inks that can stick to the plastic. They print designs and pictures onto each banknote, just like regular paper money. Then, the polymer material is cut into the right size and shape to make each banknote.

So the next time you get some money, look at it closely. It might be a polymer banknote!
