Okay kiddo, today we are going to learn about postpositivism. So, you know how we learn new things by observing and experimenting? Like, when we want to know if a ball will bounce, we throw it to see what happens? Well, that's called positivism. We believe that we can learn about the world by observing and experimenting.
But there are some things we can't observe or experiment with. For example, we can't really experiment with emotions or thoughts, right? We can't touch them or see them. That is where postpositivism comes in.
Postpositivism is a way of thinking where we accept that there are things we can't know for sure. We can't know everything through observation and experimentation. Sometimes we have to use our own judgement or make guesses, based on what we do know.
So instead of thinking that we can know everything for sure, postpositivism acknowledges that there might be limits to what we can know. That doesn't mean we stop trying to learn or experiment, but it means we recognize that there are things that will always be a mystery.
Does that make sense, kiddo?
