ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Projective identification

Projective identification is when you put your own thoughts or feelings onto someone else. It can be hard to accept or understand our own thoughts and feelings, so people sometimes try to put them onto another person. For example, if you're worried that your friends don't really like you, you might try to make them feel bad so you can feel better. But this just makes everyone feel bad! It's better to accept your own feelings and talk them through with someone who can help.
