Transference is when you start to feel like the same things in a relationship with someone else that you did in a different relationship in the past. For example, if you had an argument with your mom when you were a kid, you might find yourself getting angry and defensive in other relationships, even though the other person wasn't the one who made you mad. It could also mean that you start to trust someone too quickly or care for them too intensely, because you might end up transferring the same feelings you had for someone else onto them.
