Proto-star is like a baby star that is still growing and changing. Just like a baby, it starts off by collecting gas and dust in a big cloud called a nebula. Gravity pulls all the gas and dust together until it gets so big that it starts to get really hot in the center. This is what causes the gas and dust to start spinning around the center, kind of like a spinning top.
As the proto-star keeps growing, it starts to get heavier and denser, which makes it even hotter in the center. Eventually, when it gets hot enough, nuclear reactions start happening in the center, which means the proto-star becomes a real star.
So, think of a proto-star like a baby growing inside its mother's tummy until it's ready to be born and become a real person. Similarly, a proto-star grows inside a nebula until it's ready to become a star.
