ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Research subject

Okay kiddo, let me explain what a research subject is.

When someone wants to learn things about a certain topic, like how plants grow, or why dogs wag their tails, they do something called research. They look at lots of information that other people have already found out about that topic.

But sometimes, if they want to learn even more, they might need to do something called a research study. That's when they get people or animals to help them learn something new.

The people or animals that they use to learn something new are called the research subjects. It's like they are the "stars" of the research study.

But don't worry, they are very important and people who do research always make sure the research subjects are safe and happy. They also make sure that they follow rules to keep the research subjects safe.

So, that's what a research subject is - someone or something that helps scientists and researchers learn new things by participating in a research study.
