A Russian stove is a type of very large, heavy stove that was commonly used in Russia before the introduction of much more modern types of heating. It looks like a big box or room with a chimney-like stack coming out of the top, and is usually made out of bricks and mortar. The way it works is that inside the stove, wood and coal are burned to create heat. This heat is used to warm up the inside of the room and make it more comfortable. The heat also rises up the chimney to help heat other rooms in the house. Russian stoves are still used in some parts of Russia today for heating and cooking.
