ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Scots language

Okay kiddo, let me explain to you what the Scots language is. You know how people in Scotland speak English, right? But it's a little bit different from the English we speak in America or England. That's because it's a different version of English altogether, called Scots.

Scots originated from the Germanic language that was spoken in Scotland hundreds of years ago. It has its own unique words, spellings, and even pronunciations that are different from English. For example, in Scots, the word "good" would be spelled "guid" and the word "house" would be spelled "hoose."

Scots has been around for a very long time, and it has played an important role in Scottish history and culture. It has been used in everything from poems and songs to newspapers and legal documents.

Some people might even say that Scots is a separate language all on its own! Others might say it's just a dialect of English. But no matter what you think, Scots is a big part of Scottish identity and heritage.
