Scramble for Africa was a time in the late 1800s when many European countries were competing to take over African land and resources. These countries wanted to build empires, have more power, and create wealth so they could become more powerful nations in the world. They created colonies in African countries and took control of the resources, like gold and diamonds, they had. African people were forced to give up their land and resources, and they also had to obey all of the rules the European colonial powers set. The Scramble for Africa ended in the early 1900s, when most of Africa was now under the control of the European countries.
