ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Scramjet

Okay kiddo, do you know what an airplane is? It's a machine that helps us fly in the sky like a bird. And do you also know what gases are? They are invisible things that we can't see, like air.

Now, let's put them together. A scramjet is like a special type of airplane that can go super duper fast by using the gases in the air. It's so fast that it can even go faster than a rocket!

Here's how it works: normal airplanes use engines to burn fuel and create more energy to help them move forward. But a scramjet doesn't carry any fuel with it - it takes the air from the atmosphere and uses it as fuel! The front of the scramjet has a special shape that makes the air go really fast, and then it gets mixed with fuel and ignites, creating a big fiery explosion that shoots the jet forward.

So basically, a scramjet is like a super fast airplane that uses the air around it to go even faster. And that's how we can go zooming through the sky at incredible speeds! Isn't that cool?
