ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Scroll saw

Okay, kiddo! Have you ever seen a puzzle? You know how there are lots of little pieces you have to fit together to make a picture? Well a scroll saw is a tool that helps grown-ups make their own puzzles!

But instead of cutting paper or cardboard, the scroll saw cuts thicker materials like wood or plastic. It has a special blade that moves up and down really fast and can cut curves and designs in the material.

So imagine you wanted to make a wooden keychain with your name on it. You could draw the letters of your name on a piece of wood, clamp it to the scroll saw table, and use the saw to carefully cut out the shape of each letter. Then you could sand it smooth and paint it to make it extra special!

It's a tool for grown-ups, but if you're really interested, maybe you can ask an adult to show you how it works and help you use it safely when you're older!
