ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Sensory neuron

A sensory neuron is a type of cell in your body that helps you feel and understand what is happening around you. Think of your body like a big puzzle, and your sensory neurons are the puzzle pieces that help you put everything together.

Whenever you touch, smell, see, taste, or hear something, your sensory neurons send messages to your brain about what is happening. For example, if you touch a hot stove, your sensory neurons will tell your brain that it is hot and that you should remove your hand.

These neurons are really important because without them, you wouldn't be able to experience the world around you. They allow you to feel pain, identify different textures and temperatures, and understand your surroundings.

So, sensory neurons are like little messengers in your body, helping you process all the information that comes your way so that you can react and respond appropriately.
