ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Serials, periodicals and journals

Okay kiddo, I am going to explain what serials, periodicals, and journals are like you're 5 years old.

Do you like stories? Well, some stories are written in magazines that come out every week, month, or every few months. These magazines are called serials, which means they are released in parts or installments.

Now, sometimes when you get a bunch of these magazines together, it becomes a big book-like thing. This big book-like thing is called a periodical. It contains all the issues or installments of a serial that came out during a particular period of time, like a year.

Journals are like magazines too, but they're more serious and focus on a particular topic or subject. So, if someone is really interested in science, they might read a science journal that comes out regularly. In a journal, you can find articles written by experts in that subject who share their research and knowledge with others who are interested.

So, to summarize, serials are like stories that come out in parts regularly, periodicals are big books that contain all the parts of those stories during a specific time, and journals are like magazines that focus on a particular subject and teach us more about it.
