Shamateurism is a funny word that combines two other words: "sham" and "amateurism."
"Sham" means fake or not real, like a pretend cake or a fake plant. "Amateur" means someone who does something for fun and doesn't get paid, like a kid playing soccer in the park with their friends.
So shamateurism is when someone is pretending to be an amateur, like they're doing something for fun and not getting paid, but they're actually getting paid secretly. It's like if a grown-up was playing soccer in the park with their friends but someone else was secretly paying them to do it.
It's not fair to other amateurs who aren't getting paid and are doing something for fun. So we don't want shamateurism to happen because it can ruin the spirit of doing something just for fun.
