ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Shiplift

Imagine you have a really big and heavy toy boat that you want to play with in a swimming pool. But, it's too heavy for you to carry on your own and it's too big for you to just drop it in the pool. What do you do?

Well, that's where a shiplift comes in! It's like a special elevator that can lift really heavy boats out of the water and move them around on land. It's kind of like a big platform that goes up and down, like a really tall slide.

The shiplift uses big motors and gears to lift the boat up out of the water, then it moves along a track on land and can even turn corners to get the boat where it needs to go.

Sometimes, the shiplift is used to repair or clean the boat while it's out of the water. And when it's all done, the shiplift can carefully lower the boat back into the water, so you can play with it again!

In summary, a shiplift is like a big elevator that can lift and move really heavy boats out of the water and onto land, and then back into the water again.
