Sinkhole

The gradual ones usually happen when there is lots of water in the ground, which dissolves the rock and soil beneath the surface. Over time, this can cause the ground to slowly sink in and create a hole.

The sudden sinkholes can be scary because they can happen with little warning. They can be caused by things like heavy rain, earthquakes or even just a lot of weight being put on the ground, like a big truck or building. When the ground collapses, it can create a hole that looks like a big pit or even a giant crater.

So, that's what a sinkhole is, sweetie. It's basically a hole that appears in the ground when the soil and rock beneath it can't support the weight on top of it.
