Social model of disability

The social model of disability is a way of looking at disability and how society can help disabled people. It says that if society changes, rather than the disabled person, then disabled people will have more opportunities to take part in activities and be included in their community. This means that if an environment or a building is difficult to access for someone who is disabled, then the environment or building should be changed so that the disabled person can access it just like anyone else. For example, if a building does not have a ramp for someone in a wheelchair, then a ramp should be added so that the person in the wheelchair is able to go into the building like everyone else.
