ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Socratic irony

Socratic irony is when someone pretends not to know something, even though they do. It is named after the Greek philosopher Socrates, who liked to ask a lot of questions to encourage people to think more deeply about what they believed. He would pretend not to know the answers to his questions, but it was really just a way of tricking people into considering the ideas he was talking about.
