ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Socratic questioning

Socratic questioning is a way of asking questions that helps you learn more about things. Imagine you are playing with blocks and you want to know more about them. Your teacher might ask you questions like, "What color are the blocks?" or "How many blocks do you have?" These questions can help you think more deeply about the blocks and learn more about them.

Socratic questioning works the same way, but with bigger and more complicated things. Instead of blocks, you might be learning about science, history, or even your own thoughts and feelings. When someone uses Socratic questioning, they ask you questions that make you think more deeply about the subject. They might ask things like, "Why do you think that happened?" or "What evidence do you have to support your idea?"

Sometimes these questions can be hard to answer, but that's okay! Socratic questioning is all about helping you explore the subject and learn as much as possible. By using Socratic questioning, you can become a better thinker and learner.
