ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Soil biology

Soil biology is all about the tiny living things that live in the ground! Soil is made up of tiny bits of dirt and plants, but it also has living things living in it. These living things can include lots of different types of microbes and tiny insects. These living things help the soil by providing food and nutrition to plants, making the soil better for growing plants. Without these living things, the soil would be poor and dry, and it wouldn't be able to support plants growing in it. So when a farmer is growing crops, they look after their soil so that the living things in it are happy and healthy and can keep feeding the plants!
