Solar wind

Okay kiddo, so you know how the sun is a big ball of fire up in the sky, right? Well, sometimes it sends out a stream of something called "solar wind" that blows towards Earth like a really big wind.

But instead of feeling it like we would a normal wind, it's made up of tiny particles like electrons and protons that go really, really fast. And when they collide with things in our atmosphere, like the gases around our planet, they make beautiful colorful lights called Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights.

Sometimes the solar wind can be really strong and cause problems with our technology, like satellites and power stations. And that's why it's important for scientists to study it and understand it better, so that we can prepare for it and protect our stuff.
