The Solid South was a period during the late 1800s and early 1900s when most of the Southern states in the United States of America voted for the same political party in almost every election. This political party was called the Democratic Party, and it was supported by people who liked slavery and wanted to keep it legal in the United States. To give their party more power, they would get lots of people to vote for them. This made it very hard for any other political party to win in the South and meant that the Democratic Party always won.
