Soviet cuisine

Soviet cuisine is the kind of food that was eaten in the countries of the former Soviet Union, which was a group of countries that used to be together. People in the Soviet Union ate different things depending on where they lived, but some common dishes included borscht (a beetroot soup), pelmeni (dumplings filled with meat), shchi (a cabbage soup), and kotlety (like a meatball). Food was generally simple and based on vegetables, potatoes, and grains. People ate a lot of pickled vegetables, too.
