Stabiae
Okay kiddo, so imagine you are playing with blocks and then suddenly, you decide to build a whole city with them. This is kind of what happened a long, long time ago near a place in Italy called Mount Vesuvius. Some people decided to build a city there and they named it Stabiae.
Stabiae was like any other city, with houses, streets, markets, and people going about their daily lives. However, one day, the big mountain that was nearby (Mount Vesuvius) suddenly erupted and spewed out a lot of hot ash, rocks, and lava.
This was very dangerous because it covered the whole city of Stabiae and everything was covered in ash, including the buildings, streets, and people! This was like when you put too much flour on your pancake mixture and you can't see anything anymore.
