ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Starvation

Starvation is when a person's body doesn't get enough food for a long time, and it can make them very sick.

Imagine that your body is like a car that needs fuel to run. If you don't give the car enough gas, the engine will stop working. Similarly, if you don't give your body enough food, it won't have the energy to do the things it needs to do, like walking, playing, and thinking.

When your body doesn't get enough food, it starts to use up the stored energy that it has in your muscles and organs. At first, you might feel hungry and have less energy than you normally do. But as time goes on and you still don't get enough food, your body will start to break down its own tissues to get the energy it needs.

This can cause lots of problems. You might start to look very thin because your body is using up its fat stores. You might feel weak and tired because your muscles are getting smaller and weaker. You might get sick more often because your immune system isn't working as well as it should be.

In extreme cases, starvation can lead to death. That's why it's so important to make sure that you're getting enough food every day to keep your body healthy and strong.
