ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Statistical classification

Statistical classification is a way of sorting things into different groups. It uses math to classify things based on how similar they are in certain ways. Imagine a classroom full of kids. The teacher could use statistical classification to sort them by their height, eye color, shoe size, or whatever. The computer looks at all the different ways of sorting, and chooses the one with the most differences. That way, the groups will be more balanced, with similar kids in each group.
