Stockholm Syndrome is a feeling of caring and understanding that people can have for someone who has hurt or threatened them. It is named after a bank robbery in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1973. During the robbery, several people were held hostage for about six days. Even though the robbers treated them badly, the hostages ended up feeling sympathy for the robbers and even tried to help them when the police came. In other words, even though the robbers had been mean to them, the hostages developed feelings of understanding and care for the robbers.
