ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Stone carving

Stone carving is like playing with a very hard and heavy kind of clay. Instead of using soft and squishy clay, people use big pieces of rocks that are usually very heavy and difficult to move around. Unlike clay, stone is very solid and doesn't change shape easily. Carving is when you use special tools to chip away at the rock and take off tiny bits of it until it looks like the shape you want. Imagine using a spoon to scoop out tiny bits of ice cream, but instead of ice cream, it's a big rock!

People use stone carving for all sorts of things, like to make pretty decorations, sculptures, and even buildings. Some of the most famous buildings in the entire world, like the pyramids in Egypt or cathedrals in Europe, have lots of stone carving.

It takes a lot of work and patience to do stone carving, because you have to be very careful not to take off too much stone at once or you might ruin the whole thing. But when you're all finished, you can have a really beautiful creation that will last for a very long time!
