ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Structural violence

Structural violence is a form of violence that is more difficult to see because it is built into the normal way our society is structured. It is caused by systems of power and inequality that are set up in a way that hurts some people and helps others. For example, if an area does not have access to clean water or healthy food, people living there may suffer from sickness and disease due to a lack of resources. Another example is when people are not given the same kinds of educational opportunities as people in other areas, which can limit their chances of getting good jobs. Structural violence can also be seen in how some people are treated differently by the police or how society as a whole supports one group over another.
