Suffrage

Suffrage is a special word for voting. It means the right to vote in an election. Everyone in a democratic country should have the right to vote in a fair and honest election – this is called Universal Suffrage. Unfortunately, there are still some countries where not everyone can vote. In the past, there have been times when only certain people were allowed to vote – mostly men, and usually only rich men. Thankfully, this is changing and more people are being given the right to vote all over the world.
