Temporal discounting is when you think something in the future is not as good as something that you have now. It means that if something is available now it seems better than something you would have to wait for. For example, if your grandma offered you a chocolate now or two chocolates tomorrow, you would likely choose the one you can have now, even though two chocolates are better than one. That's because temporal discounting makes us think that having something right now is more valuable than waiting for something later.
