Tequila

Tequila is a special kind of drink that's made from a plant called the blue agave. This plant grows in Mexico and is kind of like a giant pineapple with big, spiky leaves. The tequila makers use the juice from the blue agave to make their drink.

First, they have to take off all the spiky leaves from the blue agave plant. Then they cut out the middle part, which is a big ball that weighs more than a kid. That ball is called the "piña" because it kind of looks like a big pineapple.

Once they have the piñas, they have to cook them in big ovens for a long time, like cooking a turkey for hours and hours. This cooks off all the water and leaves just a sweet, sticky juice that the makers use to make the tequila.

The sticky juice gets put into big tanks, and then the special ingredient comes in - yeast! Yeast is a tiny little creature that likes to eat sugar. When yeast eats the sugar in the sticky juice, it makes a kind of gas called carbon dioxide that bubbles up and makes the tequila frothy.

After a few days, the yeast has eaten all the sugar it can and the tequila makers have to take out the bubbles and put the tequila into oak barrels. The oak barrels give the tequila a special flavor and color.

Finally, after the tequila has been in the barrels for a while, it gets bottled up and sent to stores for people to buy and enjoy. But remember, tequila is only for grown-ups!
