Terahertz nondestructive evaluation

Have you ever been to the doctor to get a checkup? The doctor uses tools like stethoscopes to check how healthy you are without hurting you. Similarly, nondestructive evaluation is like a checkup for things like machines, buildings, and other important things. People use it to check if things are working properly or if they have any problems that need fixing.

Terahertz nondestructive evaluation is a special kind of checkup that uses a special tool called a terahertz scanner. This scanner uses a special kind of light that is too weak to hurt anything it touches, including you! But just like how the doctor can hear your heartbeat with a stethoscope, the scanner can "see" inside of things and pick up information, the same way x-rays can help doctors see inside our bodies.

For example, say a building owner wanted to make sure that their building was safe and that there were no hidden problems inside the walls. With terahertz nondestructive evaluation, we could use the scanner to check for things like hidden pipes or wires or to see if there are any cracks or other problems in the walls, all without damaging the building or having to take the wall down.

This can help make sure that everything is safe and working well, just like how we want to make sure our bodies are healthy and strong.
