Terrace (geology)

Hi there! Do you know what a terrace is? It's a flat area that can be found along a river or a stream.

Sometimes, the water in the river or stream gets really strong and can cause erosion, which means it takes away the soil and rocks from the riverbank. When this happens, the river or stream can become wider and create a new flat area next to it, which is called a terrace.

Terraces can be made up of different materials like rocks, sand, or soil, and they can be at different levels. Sometimes, you might see several terraces along a river or stream, and that means the water has eroded the riverbank several times.

People can use terraces for lots of things, like farming or building houses. But we always need to be careful around rivers and streams because they can change a lot over time, and we don't want to get hurt.
