ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

The New Great Game

Let's start by pretending we are all playing a big game together. It's like a really fancy game of tag or hide-and-seek. This game is called the "Great Game."

Now, in the past, some grownups (our parents and grandparents) played a similar game called the "Old Great Game." In that game, different big countries played against each other to try and be the most powerful and control the most land.

But now, a new version of the game has started, called the "New Great Game." In this game, some of the same big countries are still playing, but now there are some new players too, like China and India.

The goal of the New Great Game is still to be the most powerful and control the most land, but it's a bit more complicated than just running around and tagging each other. Now, countries are using things like money, technology, and diplomacy to gain power and influence in other parts of the world.

You might hear grownups talking about how some countries are building new roads and railways in other countries, or how they are investing in businesses in other countries. All of these things are part of the New Great Game.

It's like a really long and complicated game of chess, with lots of players and lots of different moves happening all over the world. But just like in any game, there are rules and limitations to what countries can do. They have to follow laws and respect each other's sovereignty (meaning they can't just take over other countries without permission).

So, in summary, the New Great Game is a big, complicated game that grownups play using things like money and technology to gain power and influence around the world. It's like a really fancy game of tag, but instead of running around outside, it's played using things like diplomacy and investment.
